All the engines in the Audi A1 Sportback work with direct injection and turbocharging. This downsizing concept coupled with the technologies from the modular efficiency components from Audi gives it stocky power combined with minimum consumption.
Recuperation
The recuperation system regains energy during the braking and coasting phases thanks to an intelligent voltage control system in the alternator. This energy is stored in the battery and supplied to the vehicle electric system during the next acceleration process, thus taking the strain off the alternator.
Start-stop system
The start-stop system switches the engine off when the vehicle is at a standstill, providing the transmission is switched to neutral and the driver has taken his foot off the clutch. When the clutch is pressed, the engine restarts – quietly, conveniently and quickly. The start-stop system also works perfectly with the 7-speed S tronic.
S tronic
The dual-clutch transmission from Audi combines the convenience of automatic gearshift with the dynamism and efficiency of a manual transmission. It changes gears within a few hundredths of a second without a perceptible interruption in power flow, smoothly and extremely conveniently. The 7-speed S tronic gearbox only weighs about 70 kg, contributing to weight reduction. Its two clutches run dry – doing away with the oil supply increases the innate efficiency of the transmission. Power is supplied to the electrohydraulic actuator as required.
Onboard computer with efficiency program
The onboard computer with efficiency program is coupled with the driver information system. It displays the consumption-related data and makes recommendations for efficient driving. An enlarged gearshift display shows the driver when to change gears. Another function provides information about which consumers in the vehicle are active – such as the air conditioning or the rear window heating – and how high their fuel consumption is.
LED technology
No matter whether we are developing a compact car or a saloon: it will always be a fully-fledged Audi. This is why the Audi A1 Sportback is also available with optional xenon headlights including LED daytime running light, which illuminate the road like daylight. Forward thinking you wouldn’t expect from a vehicle this size.
