Power becomes passion The engines in the Audi A5 Cabriolet

With the Audi A5 Cabriolet’s range of engines, you can make a rapid getaway from the ordinariness of everyday life and set out in search of new experiences. The key features of its engines are impressive traction and reserve power, coupled with refined running and efficiency.

The TDI engines

The two V6 diesel engines available for the A5 Cabriolet set standards and, thanks to elaborate exhaust-gas recirculation, satisfy the limits of the Euro 5 standard. With their smooth characteristics, powerful torque and excellent refinement, they represent a modern, adept form of sporty driving.

The 3.0 TDI develops 176 kW (240 bhp) and delivers a tremendous 500 Nm of torque all the way from 1,500 to 3,000 rpm. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h is a matter of 6.4 seconds; top speed is reached at 247 km/h. The 2.7-litre TDI, which delivers 140 kW (190 bhp) and 400 Nm from 1,400 to 3,250 rpm, is also impressive. Combined with front-wheel drive and manual gearbox, it completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.6 seconds; it has a top speed of 230 km/h. With an average fuel consumption of just 6.2 litres per 100 km, it is also very economical.

The entry-level diesel engine is the 125 kW (170 bhp) 2.0 TDI. This unit produces 125 kW (170 bhp) and applies a full 350 Nm of torque to the camshaft at engine speeds of 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. This is ample for accelerating the Audi A5 Cabriolet to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds and for giving it a top speed of 222 km/h.

Fuel consumption and emissions data:
Fuel consumption, combined: 5.7-6.8 l/100 km
CO2 emissions, combined: 148-179 g/km

The FSI engines

The most powerful petrol engine for the Audi A5 Cabriolet is the 3.2 FSI. The V6 engine’s innovative valve timing system, Audi valvelift system, cuts fuel consumption by up to 10 percent. An impressive 195 kW (265 bhp) and 330 Nm of torque, available from 3,000 to 5,000 rpm, accelerate the A5 Cabriolet to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and on up to a top speed of 246 km/h.

The 2.0 TFSI is also a high-tech engine and is available in two versions. In the entry-level version with front-wheel drive and multitronic, the turbocharged four-cylinder unit delivers 132 kW (180 bhp) and 320 Nm; this powerful torque is available from 1,500 to 3,900 rpm. The 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 8.9 seconds, top speed is reached at 219 km/h and average fuel consumption is just 7.4 l/100 km.

The more powerful version of the 2.0 TFSI delivers an impressive 155 kW (211 bhp) and 350 Nm in an even wider speed range between 1,500 and 4,200 rpm. This power is transferred to the wheels in one of three ways, just as the customer prefers: quattro drive is combined with the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox S tronic, front-wheel drive can be ordered with either the continuously variable multitronic or a six-speed manual gearbox. In the last-mentioned version, the A5 Cabriolet achieves performance figures that, just a few years ago, would even have done six-cylinder engines proud. Its average fuel consumption is therefore all the more surprising: just 6.7 l/100 km.
